The husband, a casual Lottery player, struck gold after a series of chance decisions.
While buying his usual tickets at J&S Liquors in Randallstown earlier this month, he noticed the VIP Club jackpot nearing $3 million. Encouraged by the tempting prize, he purchased a $30 ticket and won $200.
Using his winnings, he decided to double down on two more VIP Club tickets and stashed them at home—unaware one would soon make him a millionaire.
Days later, buzz started circulating about a big win at J&S Liquors.
Curious, he checked his tucked-away tickets and discovered the jaw-dropping prize.
“I wonder what he’s doing,” his wife recalled thinking when he suddenly rushed to check. Calmly, he handed her the ticket and said, “We’re millionaires.”
Skeptical at first, she confirmed their life-changing win. “He doesn’t seem excited, but he gets excited,” she said, laughing.
The pair, who claimed their prize on Nov. 26 at Maryland Lottery headquarters, plan to use the winnings to bring retirement closer. While the wife is eager for her husband to hang up his work boots, she remains unconvinced he’ll fully retire. “We’ll see,” she teased.
J&S Liquors, the lucky retailer, will also receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the historic ticket.
